Durham College (DC) is pleased to announce the fundraising campaign for the Whitby Campus skilled trades and professions expansion has received a generous donation of $25,000 from Fastening House Inc.
The generous donation will go toward the Building for Skills campaign, which has now raised over $9.5 million towards its $10 million goal, supporting a 60,000 square foot addition to DC’s Whitby campus. The new Ontario Power Generation Centre for skilled Trades and Technology, and renovation of pre-existing space, will allow 750 more students to study skilled trades each year.
“We hear from our clients how difficult it is to find all the skilled trades expertise they need,” said Brandon Chapman, Chief Operating Officer. “With our focus on bringing innovation to the trades, helping the college build and equip their new, expanded training facilities aligns beautifully with the Fastening House’s new direction.”
In recognition of Fastening House’s gift, student training stations in the electrical shop and the welding shop will be named in the company’s honour.
Fully operational as of January 2022, students and apprentices are already benefitting from the greater variety of equipment in the larger, more efficient layout of the new building. Re-purposing and renovation of pre-existing space is now well underway.

“We are very grateful for the support of suppliers. This gift from Fastening House Inc. demonstrates their understanding of their clients’ needs for well-trained human resources as well as materials to fulfill their business potential. This gift will help Durham College to continue to develop skilled workers who contribute to a strong economy and vibrant communities,” said DC President Don Lovisa.
On April 21, Durham College (DC) welcomed donors, community partners, employees and guests to experience the grand opening of the Ontario Power Generation Centre for Skilled Trades and Technology (CSTT). Located at the Whitby campus, the 60,000-square-foot facility is home to numerous specialized labs and shops, which will allow DC to increase its industrial skilled trades training capacity in Whitby by 750 students.
